The Pros and Cons of Non-surgical Rhinoplasty

When one thinks of Rhinoplasty, a rather graphic picture comes to mind, usually involving lots of bandages and stitches on ones nose. While this is not a far-fetched image, the procedure of Rhinoplasty, or more commonly referred to as a Nose Lift, has gone a long way and is probably less gruesome as one might suspect.

Over the years, Rhinoplasty remained to be among the top most requested surgical cosmetic procedures for a number of good reasons. But for the faint at heart that may have been hesitating to go under the knife for fear of pain or any other irreversible outcome, fear no more for a non-invasive solution is available for you to enjoy.

It must be emphasized, however, that a non-surgical Rhinoplasty may not offer the same dramatic effects one may experience from the surgical version. It addresses a number of areas of concern around a patient’s nose, but may not be as significant compared to when one goes through a full-on Nose Lift. If you are still undecided whether to have an Invasive or Non-Invasive procedure, it would be wise to assess the pros and cons of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty first to help you out with the decision making process.

Pro: No surgery necessary

Non-surgical Rhinoplasty is performed by injecting a collagen-stimulating filler to smoothen bumps that makes the nose’s shape appear more regular.  This being said, there is no need to create an incision in order to transfer the filler to the target area. A hypodermic syringe is used to infuse a depression in the nose with a sterile substance and that is all to it. A topical anesthetic is enough to eliminate any discomfort.

Con: It is not a complete solution to your concerns

As remarkable as the Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is, it is not a total fix to a host of problems involving the nose. For one it is a temporary answer to your trouble areas. At most, the results of the procedure can last up to 8 months. It does not help with any physiological nasal issues that you wish to correct either and is only suitable for external alterations.

Pro: Virtually zero downtime experienced

Recovery is achieved just as quickly as the process. Patients are normally advised to allot a full day to rest and to watch out for any rare allergic reactions that may occur after the procedure. Other than that, the patient can go about his or her regular activities the next day.

Con: May make nose appear bigger due to fillers
If your goal is to achieve a smaller nose to accentuate your facial features, then the non-surgical option may not be best. Because the fillers that will be injected to the target area will be taking up space, the likely outcome is a fuller and plumper nose.

Pro: Immediate Results

Unlike in a Surgical Rhinoplasty that requires you to thoroughly heal before you get to see the full features of your new nose, you will be able to appreciate the results of a Non-Invasive Nose Lift immediately after the procedure. This is also a great way to test out a new nose first, and should you be satisfied with the outcome, you may later on proceed with the operation to permanently alter your look.

Con: It will cost more overtime

The price of a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is definitely lower than its invasive counterpart. But as previously mentioned, its effects are temporary which may require the patient to go through the procedure multiple times in his or her lifetime. Having to spend on this process at least once every year to maintain your look may not be as cost effective after all.

Depending on your priorities and goals, a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty may work well for you. It would be recommended to have a consultation with a board-certified cosmetic surgeon with years of experience in the field to journey with you in finding the best solution to your woes.
